“As a former blood slave, Zsadist bore the scars from a past filled with suffering and degradation until Bella came along and helped heal his emotional wounds. Now, though, with the birth of their child, the demons of his past have been resurrected, called forth by the innocent eyes of his beloved daughter, Nalla. Unless Bella and Nalla can bring him back with their love, he may be lost to them forever.”

“Ever since the birth of his daughter, Nalla, Zsadist has been regressing further and further into the life he led before he met Bella, his beautiful shellan. He has been waking up in cold sweats due to nightmares from his past, hasn’t made love to his wife, and won’t hold his baby girl, for fear that he might hurt her. While Nalla’s presence had consisted of only joy and excitement in first couple months of her life, now it seems to be driving the couple apart. Bella is afraid that she and Nalla just may need to leave her hellren.

But then Zsadist gets injured on a mission to fight the lessers and because he hasn’t been feeding from Bella, almost loses his life. Could this near-death experience create the motivation to pull this couple back together? Or has the gap between them spanned too far for redemption?”

Review:

If I had to pick a favorite story of the BDB world, this would be it.

‘Father mine’ is Zsadist’s second book, and we get a harsh awakening from the happy ending we got in Lover Awakened. Z might have found his Mate and gotten his very own little family, but it just go to show you,you can’t run from your own mind and it’s heartbreaking.

I think this is the best story J.R. Ward has ever written. Zsadist is trying his hardest not to get sucked back into his past trauma, but inevitably fails.

The way his shellan ,Bella, rips him out of the dark and embraces him and his traumas makes me cry, every time. We can feel z’s despair of wanting to be there for his daughter, but letting his past get in the way of it.

Z’s journey through this novella is probably the hardest he’s ever made, but he does it so brilliantly.

Verdict: 5 of 5 Daggers up!
